about

Written May 2005 - June 2006
Recorded May & June 2006, mostly at Richard's house in Napa Valley, CA, and some at the Prasada in Minneapolis.
I wrote it, recorded it all into a tape recorder and wanted to put it out just like that. I think I mailed it to Paul and he said that it sounded like it needed a little more variety.
We re-recorded songs like "Ramble On", "Manhattan Steam Donkey", and "Big Woods", which became the highlights.
Who's your producer, indeed.
After meeting Stephanie (first banjo player) and reimagining some of these tracks in August 2006, I thereafter replaced the original version of "What if we left tonight?" with the "Lake Oswego Nightmare" version of the song, which had a lot more pep.
"For the Dead Kids in Lake Bronson" is a title I gave to a cassette-tape recording I had somehow hung onto of my grandpa Red playing piano. He died in 2012, and I'm glad I have this by which to remember him.
This album is really special to me because it felt the most personal, and chronicled a time of travel, loneliness, and personal growth.
